Spring 2025 — The recently launched Finish in Four program provides four-year scholarships for Oregon-resident students with high financial need and is part of a multifaceted, university-wide effort to help students thrive. Participants are part of a supportive cohort that receives financial education and academic counseling.

This fall, Oregon State University welcomed its first cohort, including kinesiology student Yvonne Hawkins. Hawkins, who is also serving as a Finish in Four student ambassador, became interested in kinesiology as a high school athlete.

The volleyball player spent a lot of time with an athletic trainer and in physical therapy, and when considering college options, it was clear that OSU offered a great program. “I feel like I made the right choice,” they said. Hawkins notes that they’ve already gained beneficial opportunities at Oregon State, including working with a graduate student on a research project aimed at preventing injuries.

For Hawkins, being part of Finish in Four has health benefits too, by lowering stress. “I’m excited to go through school with this group of people. Finish in Four is going to be a constant and I think that’s reassuring. We’re all working toward a similar goal so it’s motivating,” they said.

In his role as the director of Student Success & Belonging, Dorian Smith works directly with Finish in Four students. This means meeting with students individually and providing opportunities for the cohort to connect with one another and other members of the OSU community.

"Finish in Four is such an impactful scholarship because it provides holistic support and community," Smith says.
